The River North Business Association is founded on making connections. Our mission is to bring businesses together to build a stronger, more vibrant community. We’re excited to feature one of these successful connection stories that highlights a few of our members working together.
There were a number of ingredients making this dish a success:
A Dash of Daring
Be Leaf is a new restaurant which brings delicious fresh salads and wraps to the downtown area, (making it easy to eat healthy.)
Tablespoon of Creativity
Amelia Street Studio is a creative agency that helps companies tell stories through design.
Touch of Color
Cushing is a creative digital print provider with roots in Chicago since 1929.
Mix it together and what do you have? A recipe for building relationships.
Keep Me In The Loop
Becky Marks, a new River North Business Association member, was seeking a creative agency to bring a vision of healthy-eating to life (through branding, marketing, interior graphics and of course, menus!).
“My goal was for Be Leaf to brighten a person’s day,” says Becky Marks, owner at Be Leaf. “And I was hoping to connect with a firm that understood our goals and healthy eating missions!”
She was introduced to Katy Osborn of Amelia Street Studio by Lema Khorshid of Fuksa Khorshid Law Firm, both established RNBA members. Immediately, Becky and Katy hit it off.
“I knew from the get go that our visions for a fun, fresh, punny brand would align perfectly,” says Katy Osborn, Co-Founder at Amelia Street Studio. “I could tell this was going to be one of our favorite projects.”
The creative team started work on a logo. The next item on the menu was pulling together a campaign, kicking off with a custom website, peppered with original, hand-made GIF’s. Once the website was active, the interiors came next, and had to embed the same sense of humor and personality on every single wall, even the restrooms! (including ‘peapod’ wallpaper in the washrooms, get it?).
“It was clear I wasn’t just meeting a vendor selling services in the RNBA,” mentions Becky Marks, owner and founder at Be Leaf. “I was meeting business owners who cared about my long term success.”
With design concepts and a website bursting with color, who would they leaf the printing to?
After attending an educational RNBA event at Cushing (and taking a tour), Katy remembered the large format capabilities and knew they would be a great resource for all of the big and small print jobs, from window graphics to menus. She reached out to Josette O’Neil, account manager at Cushing, a creative print services firm and RNBA member.
“It was the type of project our company specializes in,” reflects O’Neil. “And we immediately had ideas to bring it together.”
From brainstorming material ideas to installing the full-wall graphics, Cushing was hands on and helped with every step of the process. The restaurant was transformed into a bright, energetic space, which delivered on Becky’s main objectives: good flow, efficient ordering and smiling customers.
Seeing is Be Leafing
What’s next? This story is just getting started. Cushing hired Be Leaf to cater a presentation on wall décor at their River North Office. Amelia Street Studio is assisting Cushing on a couple of new collateral designs. Leaf it to the River North Business Association team to foster such great connections.
